Dear contemporary dance professional in the Nordic-Baltic countries and beyond Registration is now open for the FIFTH keðja encounter. It takes place in Umeaa, Sweden, May 3-6 2010
keðja Umeaa digs deep The focus of keðja Umeaa is The Artistic Process. The encounter consists of several labs and lectures conducted by some of the most interesting artists and scholars working in the international dance field right now. All professionals of the dance community and related areas are welcome to participate. Dancers, choreographers, producers and managers will examine working methods, deepen the artistic discourse and highlight artistic research in the field. Special attention will be given to the dancer´s creative process. There will also be a lab on dance for camera. keðja Umeaa is a great opportunity to dig deep into the subjects at hand and develop contacts with colleagues from the Northern and Baltic countries and elsewhere.
A Northern Capital of Culture The encounter takes place in Umeå, a vital town in the north of Sweden, recently chosen to be the European Capital of Culture in 2014. Down town you will find NorrlandsOperan, a centre for performing arts and music, where the MADE festival is held May 5–8. MADE stands for Music, Art, Dance, Etc and is an international festival dedicated to new art forms and expressions.
keðja Umeå is organised by Moderna Dansteatern in co-operation with the Swedish Dance Committee and several Swedish partners.

keðja is 6 international dance encounters in the Nordic-Baltic countries 2008-2010
• keðja is for anyone interested in taking a closer look at how contemporary dance is organized and works in the Nordic-Baltic countries • keðja is for people who want to question and discuss the current situation • keðja is for people who want to co-operate across boarders, creating better circumstances for the art of contemporary dance, and thereby stimulating and developing the art of dance.
keðja is the Icelandic word for chain and is highly associated with the old Nordic chain dances that are still being danced. The name keðja symbolizes that the aim of the project is to connect, attach, encircle and move outwards as well as to strengthen the already existing chains/networks.
Over a period of 3 years, 6 encounters with different dance-related headlines will take place in 6 countries.
Artistic events, workshops, seminars and other kinds of exchange will take place, addressing the future of contemporary dance and its role in society by raising the awareness of dance, revealing potentials and facilitating development in all sectors of the art of dance. - Making a significant long-term impact on the artistic environment!
